Sheila,
Thank you for adopting Tia/Sophie. She was lucky to find someone that will give her some time to settle down in her new home. She has been through a couple moves in her short life. You have made a comfortable place for her to go when she eats, sleeps and rests. My 13 year old dog, still goes to her crate to rest.
As far as the leash, if you have some time, you can buy some clothes line and cut off a piece and attach it to her collar. Then make it longer the next time, then longer, then longer. If she likes treats and takes them eaisily from you, then get some high value treats, leftover chicken, sausage, steak, cut it up small and give treats when she just stands next to you with the leash on, then gradually start walking. I think once she finds out she is going to have fun when her leash is on, she will start to love it.
Keep us updated!

We adopted Tia last week. She has been a treasure! Our daughter has a little terrier named "Peanut"; we were concerned about confusion when calling Peanut and Tee-uh (and I wanted to name her) so we call her Sophia (keeping the eee-uh sound). She has quickly become Sophie. Sophie seemed very anxious during her first few days, eager to come sit on my lap, quick to cower and run away when approached. She loves to play with our daughter's two little terriers. Sophie now engages in shaking toys and trying to herd the little dogs! She goes to her crate to eat. She also sleeps there overnight. At times she goes to her crate to just lay down. It has a comfy bed so we hope she thinks of it as her special place. Sophie seems to lick excessively. I think more when she is anxious. She also seems totally freaked out by a leash. I'm looking for suggestions on how to gently train her to a leash so we can go for walks. Sophie seems to love other dogs and approaches people IF they are sitting down. She seems comfortable letting our 16 month old granddaughter pet her and love up to her so long as Sophie is sitting on my lap.
Thanks for caring for Aussies and for helping us find our Sophie!

As stands right now, Millie is recuperating from surgeryand doing well. There is someone that is waiting to meet her though. We are hoping she will be adopted, but they haven't met yet. Have you filled out an application?

Yes Joe, we do adopt out of state. But we need an application completed and some things done before consideration. I know there are closer aussie rescue organizations closer to NJ. Have you done a search for them?

I had a question regarding Millie. How is she with a cat? She seems a lovely dog. What is the current update on her health? If I wanted to see her do I fill out an adoption form first? I live in St. Louis.

Found your website after recently losing our beloved Aussie. I am interested in adopting another Aussie, possible a rescue. I would like more information on what the process is. I particularly liked Hummer, as our dog was also a show dog, male that was about the same size. He's beautiful.
