Zuzu, 3 to 4 year old black tri female – small – weighing in just under 35 lbs – UTD on shots, HW negative, crate trained, housebroken. Zuzu was dumped at animal control in southern MO because her family was moving. We have figured out that she must have lived in an apartment because each time when she is finished eating, she runs to the door to go for a walk! She gets along well with other dogs and older children. She is very loving and seems to prefer women over men. She is a very quiet dog and really likes routine.

Fern is an 8 month old black & white mini aussie – UTD on immunizations, microchipped, housebroken. Fern continues to make progress in her foster home after being rescued from a horrendous backyard breeder. She likes to be around people, although still shy, she does approach people and gives dainty kisses. Unexpected loud noises will spook her & she will run to the other room, but quickly comes back… like she is really trying to stick it out, but her mind works faster than she can tell herself how to react. Fern is still very much a puppy & needs proper things to chew on – she also enjoys finding clothing that smells like her foster mom – she does not chew these up but just takes them and makes a bed out of them. She is submissive with other dogs and likes kids. She will let children approach her, and pet her, but doesnt like to “play” with them. This little angel of a dog will need someone who is dog smart enough to realize she will need a little extra time to adjust, but will be well worth the extra wait.

August is a very snuggly female Mini Aussie from a puppy mill. She was born on November 27, 2009 & is current on all shots, spayed and micro chipped and pretty much full grown at 25 lbs. Good with other dogs and cats. August enjoys being on your lap or just close to you and she is finally coming into her own. It took her several weeks to get over the shock of no longer living in a crate 24/7. She will play with a ball by herself, pushing it around with her paws and chasing it. She likes chew bones & stealing socks from the laundry basket leaving a trail down the hall to and from the basket (does not chew them). Likes to give kisses. August is learning to trust and she is totally adorable and it’s so rewarding to see her blossoming under the loving attention her foster family is giving her.

An Adoption is Pending!
Millie, approximately 6 year old red merle spayed female, UTD on shots, crate trained, housebroken. Millie is not the most attractive aussie we have rescued but her sweet disposition and horrible life makes her an amazing dog. Millie is a work in progress – she has very little confidence right now and is rather timid, but after you read her story, you will realize that the fact that she interacts at all with the human race is a miracle.
Millie was left tied to the shelter fence in the middle of the night on one of those cold, rainy days in February. That in itself is pretty horrific, but add to that the fact that Millie was in labor. We don’t know how many puppies were born and froze to death before the shelter opened but after she was brought inside, she delivered 4 healthy puppies – protecting and caring for the puppies even though she was extremely sick and dehydrated and covered in ticks and filled with parasites including heartworms. Millie was a devoted mother, rarely leaving the puppies and the only time we saw any joy on her face was when the pups were old enough to play – then she would do the “play bow” with them and have a great time frolicking around acting like a pup herself. All those pups have been adopted and are doing great.
Millie had an extremely hard time following her spay surgery because of the many times she had been bred. Her uterus was frail and enlarged and because of the blood loss, Millie had to stay in the hospital for 2 days instead of coming home immediately after surgery as most dogs do. She is now getting ready to start the painful treatment to kill the heartworms. We anticipate Millie will be a trooper as she is through everything else that life has thrown at her and she will be ready to find her new home by mid July.
Millie is very quiet – we have never heard her bark even though she has been in foster care since the end of February. She is shy with people and would never think of coming up to someone when she first meets them. Millie has to be guided by her collar to her crate when it’s time to eat – she acts like she has been punished for wanting to eat in the past. Millie has made great strides though – in the beginning she was totally shut down – would not think of approaching anyone or even taking a treat from her foster mom. She will take treats now and seeks her foster mom out for ear scratches and her favorite place is on a big dog bed next to her foster mom’s desk when the foster mom is on her computer. She gets along well with other dogs – especially young ones but is terrified of children.
Millie deserves to have someone to love, cherish and spoil her – she has most certainly paid her “dues”. She is learning to trust and wants to be loved. She is a very low maintenance dog and the only thing we have found is that she is afraid of storms. Most dogs that have been neglected and left outside are afraid – but she is not destructive during storms, just finds a place to hide – usually under the bed or in the back of a closet. A benadryl tablet given before the storm hits is enough to allow her to tolerate the storm.
So if you have a big, soft heart and would like to know the joy of seeing this wonderful girl come out of her shell and blossom under some kind treatment, please consider Millie – we are positive you will receive so much more than you give!

Frankie, 3 to 4 year old neutered blue merle male, 2 blue eyes, UTD on shots, HW negative, immaculate house manners, crate trained. Frankie is a very fun dog who acts more like a one year old – he is self confident and “full of himself”. He absolutely loves to lie on his back and have his belly rubbed – for hours if you are willing. He loves to play fetch with a ball and is very good about bringing it back to you. He also likes all kinds of toys but is not destructive with them. Frankie is very obedient and wants to please – he knows sit and loves to go on walks. He walks politely on leash and is a very social dog. The only fault we can find with him is that he can play a little rough with other dogs – not aggressively but he can be annoying at times – like a teenager. Frankie is probably too active for toddlers, but he is fine with older children.

Oliver has spent his whole life living in the yard of a stupid breeder who doesn’t believe in vets and says she takes good care of her dogs and loves them. I don’t know about you, but when I love something I take care of it. Oliver’s stupid owner never cared for him and did nothing for him except feed him and breed him – as a matter of fact when she wanted to go on vacation she would throw a 20 lb bag of kibble onto the ground and fill a bucket with water and leave for a week, sometimes longer. Oliver had never been out of that yard, in a house nor in a car until rescue picked him up and promised him a better life. Oliver of course turned up positive for heartworms and when we called the stupid owner to alert her so she could check her other dogs, she called us liars and said he couldn’t have heartworms because he was running and playing with the ball the day we picked him up – have I used up my quota of “stupids” yet??
Oliver’s foster parents think he is a miracle – after only 48 hours Oliver was seeking them out for affection and even went on a walk with them and their dogs. Don’t get me wrong, this beautiful boy still needs some work to build up his confidence, but the progress he is making tells us what a truly amazing boy he is.
Oliver is on the small size – about 40 lbs and the size of a normal female – you know how great things come in small packages! Oliver needs to complete his heartworm treatment so he may not be available until the end of April or mid May unless you would be willing to help him recover which would be easy – just keeping him on crate rest for a mere 30 days.
